This acrylic on 9×12 art canvas depicts the fresh water ditch in Tuolumne County running from Pinecrest Lake all the way to Columbia. This ditch was originally installed in the 1800’s to provide fresh water for hydro-mining in Columbia. Over time the ditch was converted to fresh water use in the county. There are 130 water treatment organizations managed by the State of California in Tuolumne County with a great majority of the water pumped out of the Columbia Ditch. The ditch provides an excellent source of gentle hiking, bicycle riding, and fishing. This painting is a great reminder of the California Gold Rush history in expanding the state.
